You feel it. A heavy presence in your room. A fog in your mind. A weight on your chest. You try to pray, but the words will not come. You try to read your Bible, but it feels like cardboard. You feel like someone is watching you. You feel like someone is pushing against you. You have nightmares. You wake up exhausted. You feel like you are losing control. You wonder if you are going crazy.
You are not crazy. You may be experiencing the effects of witchcraft. Witchcraft is real. It is not just in fairy tales and movies. It is a spiritual operation. It is the attempt to control, manipulate, or harm others through demonic power. Witchcraft can be obvious, like casting spells or consulting mediums. Or it can be subtle, like manipulation, control, and psychological pressure. Either way, it is evil. God hates it. And in Christ, you have victory over it.
This article will walk you through fifteen Bible verses for dealing with witchcraft operations. You will learn what the Bible says about witchcraft, why it is so dangerous, and how to stand against it. You are not powerless. You are a child of God. The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
What Is Witchcraft
Witchcraft is the attempt to manipulate spiritual forces for evil purposes. It includes casting spells, divination, sorcery, consulting mediums, contacting the dead, and using occult practices. But witchcraft can also be more subtle. It can be manipulation. It can be control. It can be psychological pressure. It can be intimidation. It can be curses spoken over you. The goal of witchcraft is to control, harm, or destroy.
The Bible is clear that witchcraft is evil. It is a work of the flesh. It is detestable to God. Those who practice witchcraft will not inherit the kingdom of God. But here is the good news. In Christ, you have authority over every demonic power. Jesus has already defeated them. You can resist them. They will flee.
What the Bible Says About Witchcraft
Here are fifteen Bible verses to help you understand and deal with witchcraft operations.
Galatians chapter five verses nineteen and twenty list the acts of the flesh. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions. Witchcraft is listed right alongside idolatry, hatred, and jealousy. It is a work of the flesh. It is not from God. Those who practice it will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Deuteronomy chapter eighteen verses ten through twelve say, let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. This is a strong warning. Witchcraft is detestable to God. Not disliked. Not frowned upon. Detestable. God hates it. He commands His people to stay far away from it.
Micah chapter five verse twelve says, I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast spells. This is a promise from God. He will destroy witchcraft. Not manage it. Not contain it. Destroy it. You no longer have to fear spells. God will destroy them.
Exodus chapter twenty two verse eighteen says, do not allow a sorceress to live. This verse is part of the Old Testament law. It shows how seriously God takes witchcraft. In a theocracy, witchcraft was a capital offense. Today, we do not execute witches. But we do recognize that witchcraft is evil and must be opposed.
Leviticus chapter nineteen verse thirty one says, do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God. This is a direct command. Do not turn to mediums. Do not consult spiritists. Do not seek out those who practice witchcraft. Why? Because you will be defiled. You will be contaminated. You will open doors to the enemy. Stay away.
Second Chronicles chapter thirty three verse six describes the evil of King Manasseh. It says, he sacrificed his children in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced divination and witchcraft, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing His anger. Witchcraft is evil. It arouses God’s anger. Do not dabble in it. Do not be curious about it. Stay far away.
Isaiah chapter forty seven verses twelve and thirteen mock the practitioners of witchcraft. God says, keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. All the counsel you have received has only worn you out. Witchcraft does not work. It cannot save. It only wears you out. Do not waste your time with it.
Nahum chapter three verse four describes Nineveh as a prostitute, the mistress of sorceries, who enslaved nations by her prostitution and peoples by her witchcraft. Witchcraft enslaves. It does not free. It traps people in fear, control, and manipulation. Jesus came to set the captives free. Do not be enslaved by witchcraft. Walk in freedom.
Acts chapter eight verses nine through eleven describe Simon the sorcerer. He practiced sorcery and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great. Witchcraft is often about pride. It is about wanting power and control. It is about being someone great. But Simon’s power was nothing compared to the power of the Holy Spirit. When he saw the apostles laying hands on people and receiving the Holy Spirit, he tried to buy the power with money. Peter rebuked him. Witchcraft cannot buy the Holy Spirit.
Acts chapter nineteen verse nineteen describes the conversion of sorcerers in Ephesus. A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. That is a lot of money. These new believers burned their sorcery books. They did not sell them. They did not give them away. They destroyed them. If you have any objects related to witchcraft, get rid of them. Burn them. Throw them away. Do not keep them.
Revelation chapter twenty one verse eight lists those who will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. The list includes the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars. Those who practice magic arts, witchcraft, sorcery, will be in the lake of fire. Not because God is mean, but because they refused to repent. They loved their evil more than they loved God.
Revelation chapter twenty two verse fifteen says, outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. Those who practice magic arts are excluded from the holy city. They are outside. They have chosen their evil over God’s grace.
Second Kings chapter twenty one verse six repeats the evil of Manasseh. He sacrificed his son, practiced divination, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing His anger. Witchcraft arouses God’s anger. Do not arouse God’s anger. Repent. Turn away. Seek His mercy.
Malachi chapter three verse five says, I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers. God will testify against sorcerers. He will be quick to do it. There is a day of judgment coming. On that day, those who practice witchcraft will have no defense.
Psalm ninety one verses ten and eleven say, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. This is a promise of protection. If you are a child of God, you do not need to fear witchcraft. No harm will overtake you. God commands angels to guard you. You are protected.
How to Stand Against Witchcraft
Here are practical steps to stand against witchcraft operations.
First, repent of any involvement. Have you ever dabbled in witchcraft? Read horoscopes? Played with Ouija boards? Consulted a medium? Watched shows that glorify witchcraft? Repent. Ask God to forgive you. Renounce it.
Second, destroy any objects related to witchcraft. Throw away the books. Delete the apps. Tear down the posters. Break the crystals. Burn the tarot cards. Get rid of it all.
Third, pray for protection. Pray Psalm ninety one over your life. Declare that no harm will overtake you. Ask God to command His angels to guard you.
Fourth, put on the armor of God. Read Ephesians chapter six. Put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, the word of God.
Fifth, resist the devil. James chapter four verse seven says, submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee. Resist. Do not entertain. Do not fear. Resist. He will flee.
A Final Prayer
Lord, I repent of any involvement with witchcraft, known or unknown. I renounce all spells, curses, and manipulation. I break every agreement with the enemy. I destroy every object related to witchcraft. I declare that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I put on the full armor of God. I submit to You. I resist the devil. He must flee. I am safe in You. Guard me by Your angels. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
